When A Broke Family Has The Flu

by Robin on April 20, 2009 in Tips

Sorry we haven’t been writing. But I have been stuck in bed since Sunday

I am half delirious most of the time. Tyler has been great and taking both Mommy and Daddy roles. Ethan got a flu shot this year so luckily enough he has not gotten sick.

Tyler has taken to sleeping in the guest room which is not a good thing since I am getting used to having a big bed all to myself!

We did not make a wise decision this flu season; we opted out of getting our flu shot.

Now I know it might not have helped that I still might not have gotten sick but what if?

I made a $20 decision that ended up costing me:

  • Ethan’s first Easter, we did not get to go to church. (he had a really cute outfit too)
  • Easter brunch with the family.
  • 3 days worth of work
  • 3 prescriptions totaling $70
  • $15 doctor’s visit

So my decision which would have cost me $20 ended up costing us over $350 plus memories with family. The only upside about getting sick is that I’ve lost over 5 pounds and I didn’t have to work out.

The only time my wife or I have gotten the flu was immediately after getting a flu shot, so I don’t get one anymore. She works in healthcare and her employer requires that she get one.

Interesting…But I guess if your occupation requires it…its just part of the job! Thanks for the comment.
