I was listening to Dave Ramsey Radio Show the other day and during a portion of his show a fairly young caller chimed in. He was fairly young and just started out in his career. He Drove a 22,000 car and wore a 5,000 Rolex….He was asking Dave for help and needed some hand-holding.
Sounds okay as long as he is making a lot more than 25,000 right?
The caller’s salary was in the low twenties. There is no way he could afford the watch and car. Dave mentioned that he would have no problem with this if he had paid cash and could afford it!
Dave helped him realize that he needed to sell the car and watch and get back out of debt!
Dave also brought up the fact that both Sam Walton and Warren Buffet were not materialistic.
Sam Walton drove a 1979 Ford F150 Truck and Warren Buffet has lived in his modest home (still large for most people) for years!
Even these two billionaires had the money to drive expensive cars and buy expensive mansions…They didn’t.
Dave commented that the reason they didn’t buy these material things was because…
They didn’t care what others think!
…Now that’s food for though!
