How to Be Nice to The Credit Card Company

by Robin on August 26, 2008 in Tips

Today during my lunch break I decided to call our American Express customer service. We are currently getting 14.99% interest and since we have an outstanding balance we were paying a lot per month.

We have transferred two balances their way at a 3.99% interest so we’ve been giving them some business. I called and spoke with a really nice guy and he said sure and lowered our interest to 12.99% not too drastic but for right now I will take it.

I asked what we could do in the next couple of months to get it lower. He said to keep making regular payments and call back and ask again. So I put it in my calendar to call back in 3 months. Very exciting progress for us! Baby Steps!

Total Time Spent On Phone: 10 Minutes

Lowered from 14.99% to 12.99%!

Another great example of “You Don’t Get What You Don’t Ask For.” Nice work!

Thanks for the comment “See My Money!” You are absolutely right.

Supposedly they have a place in their customer support software that lets them lower it a certain amount every few months!
